William F. "Butch" Whittington, 80, passed away Wednesday morning July 5, 2023 at Shawnee Senior Living Center in Herrin.
He was born in Benton, IL on November 26, 1942 the son of Taylor & Vivian (Cook) Whittington.
Butch married Brenda Kay (Whitecotton) on September 18, 1964, and she preceded him in death on February 16, 2008.
Mr. Whittington was an Army Veteran.
Mr. Whittington is survived by his:
Daughter: Crystal Leschke of Herrin
Daughter-in-law: Ashley Whittington of Goreville
6 Grandchildren:
Donovan Leschke of Elgin
Brianna Hamilton & husband Chance of West Frankfort
Zachary Leschke of West Frankfort
Melanie Downen & husband Tim of Herrin
Faith Whittington of West Frankfort
Aydyn Whittington of Goreville
3 Great-Grandchildren: Jaylin, Jelena & Ganon
Mr. Whittington was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife, 1 Son-Dale Allen Whittington and by 3 Siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 12th at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton with Bro. Ivan Ryan officiating. Burial with Military Rites conducted by the Benton American Legion Post #280 & VFW Post #2671 will be in the Franklin Cemetery in Whittington. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
