William Paul Kirk, age 76, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at 2:15 P.M. at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
William was born in Sesser, IL at home on September 17, 1947 to the late William L. & Stella L. (Thompson) Kirk.
William & his wife Paula G. (Cassanelli) were married in the First Baptist Church of Sesser, IL April 17th and they were blessed with 53 years of marriage.
He is survived by his daughter Angela and husband Jim Czerwinski; eight grandchildren Sierra and husband Quinton Kehrer, Jordan, Briley, Avery, Drexel & Sylas Czerwinski, Hunter & Braxton Kirk. Three great-grandchildren Browen & Laiklyn Kehrer and Wailyn Czerwinski. He is also survived by one brother Danny and wife Diana Kirk, two sisters, Judy and husband Richard Eckles, Paula Wilkerson. He is survived by two nieces, four nephews, many great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son Brandon Kirk, his parents, sister Pat Dickey, brother Bobby Kirk, two nieces and one nephew.
As a young man William worked on the family farm milking dairy cows. He also helped his father train bird dogs and ran dogs in field trials. William worked two jobs; a coal miner at Inland Steel, later bought by Consol Coal Company and Risley Trash Service. William and most of his family was known for their dancing abilities and their love for country music. Soon after William started a family he square danced twice on the Grand Ole Opry with the Rend Lake Jiggers. Several years later they started another group called the Wagon Wheelers and danced in Kentucky, Tennessee and Illinois. After retirement William enjoyed messing with animals, such as; horses, cows & pigs. William loved working along the side of his son cutting hay and working on tractors. Lately he has been enjoying life with his wife relaxing at their daughters house, riding their side by side, and spending time with family and friends.
Williams final wishes was to be cremated. His family has decided to include him in his son’s Celebration of Life on September 21st at the Sesser VFW at noon.
