Obituary

Ronald Dale Ozbourn, 63, of Benton, Illinois, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

Ronnie (as he was known by friends and family) was born on March 5, 1959, in Benton, Illinois. He spent his childhood in Logan, Illinois. He attended Benton Consolidated High School where he played football, basketball, and ran track and field. He graduated with the class of 1977.

Ronnie worked most of his life as an underground coal miner for various companies including Old Ben Coal, American Coal, and most recently at Knight Hawk Mine.

Ronnie was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. He referred to himself as a “simple man”; enjoying the simple pleasures in life. He enjoyed working in his yard, woodworking, weight lifting, and being active. At the height of his weight lifting career, he competed and won over 50 powerlifting meets. He also participated in the Senior Olympics for Track and Field and was known to challenge his buddies at the coal mine in races.

He was preceded in death by his father Ronald Ozbourn Sr.; Stepfather, Deon Kirk; Sister, Julie (Kirk) Peeler. He is survived by his devoted wife, Dora Ozbourn; Son, Jason Ozbourn; Daughters, Danielle Ozbourn, and Samantha Ozbourn-Lane; Mother, Carolyn Kirk; Brothers, Timothy Ozbourn and Marty Kirk; Sisters, Lynn Ann (Ozbourn) Rone and Kelly (Kirk) Lemmon; Grandchildren, Alec Ceasar and Ava Hobbie; Great-granddaughter, Arya Hobbie.

Services will be held at Logan Church of God, 16888 Lowry Ave, Logan, Illinois, 62856 on Saturday, April 9, 2022. Public visitation where the family will receive friends will begin at 11:30. Funeral services will begin immediately following visitation, and burial will be held at the Logan Church of God cemetery.
