Rebecca Ann "Becky" Garwood, 73, of Benton, Il. peacefully passed away on Thursday morning December 26, 2024 with her daughters by her side where she resided at her daughter's home in Woodlawn. She was born on March 5, 1951 to the late Billie and Ruth Ann Riley. Becky was first married to the late Gary Huntman and raised their two daughters. She later married Larry Garwood on December 30, 1994.
In addition to her husband, Larry Garwood of Benton, Il, she is survived by her daughters, Monica Maxey and Scott of Mt. Vernon, Celeste Brumbaugh and Beechworth IV of Woodlawn, Il, grandchildren, Damon Wright, Emma Maxey, Bella Brumbaugh, Gabrielle Travous and husband Zach Travous, and their children Jayden, Jett, and Jax, step-daughter, Linsay Smith and husband Josh, of O'Fallon, MO, and their children Noah and Austin, sister Connie White and husband Jerry of Jackson, TX, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Becky was a very active and fun mom, grandma, and great-grandma. Her many careers were in real estate with Century 21, bookkeeper for Gary Huntman Plumbing, bartender for the Eagles Club in Mt. Vernon, and an entrepreneur in the restaurant business. She along with her husband Larry, owned and operated Harbor Lite in Whittington, Il. for over 30 years where she gave her heart and soul to all aspects and success of the business. She took great pride in providing delicious food to family, friends, and the communities in Southern Illinois.
Becky loved being at her happy place by the ocean. She adored spending time with her daughters, grandkids, and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies were cooking, reading, gardening, and golfing. Becky had an abundance of friends she loved to share laughter, good times, and a few drinks with throughout her lifetime. She embraced a deep connection with her huge Riley and Gatewood relatives and always looked forward to their reunions.
In addition to her parents, Becky was preceded in death by her brothers Dennis and Larry Riley, and a son-in-law Patrick Wright.
A Memorial Visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on January 3, 2025 at the Dix Community Center.
