Patricia Kay (Stalcup) Melvin, went to be with the Lord on November 1, 2024. Patricia was born on August 19, 1940, in Mulkeytown, Illinois, to Fred and Mildred Stalcup. Pat married Norman Melvin on October 4, 1958, and together they shared sixty-five years of marriage until Norman’s death in April, 2024. From this marriage, four daughters were born. They are Kathy Melvin, Julie (Kevin) Tate, Karen (Randy) Harpster, and Carla (Mark) McDaniel. She was a wonderful and loving grandmother to Carl Melvin Staffey, who proceeded her in death; Zach (Mary Elizabeth) Tate; Emily (Cole) Forby; Kylie (Logan) Cameron; Alex (Taylor) Staffey; Kourtney (Kodey) Costello; and Hannah Harpster. She adored her great-grandchildren Kason & Millie Forby, Addison Cameron, and Zaviar & Walker Costello.
Pat was a longtime member of Grace Bible Church. She also worked at Benton Middle School, and some may remember her as the “lunch ticket lady.” She spent hours crocheting, sewing, reading, and other crafts and hobbies. Pat worked many hours canning and freezing an uncountable amount of garden produce from Norman’s garden. She always made sure to fix her daughter’s their favorite meals and cakes on their birthdays. Her strawberry pudding dessert was a family favorite. She loved attending and watching her grandchildren at their special events. In more recent years, she adored watching her great-grandchildren run and play.
Pat is survived by her younger brother, Richard (Sharon) Stalcup. She was proceeded in death by her sister Loretta Pickering and her brother Ed Stalcup.
Services will be on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at Grace Bible Church in West City, Illinois (107 North Court Street, Benton, Illinois), with visitation at 2:00 PM and service at 3:00 PM. A private burial for the family will be held on Monday, November 4, 2024, at Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton. Morton and Johnston Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Can’s Can Ministry and will be accepted at the church.
