Minnie Lois Neal

Minnie Lois Neal, 91, of Benton passed away on May 9, 2023 at her home.
Minnie was born on August 2, 1931 in Benton, Illinois. She was the daughter of Harley and Vernie (Buntin) Neal.
Minnie graduated from Benton Township High School. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Southern Illinois University in 1951 and a Master of Science Degree from MacMurray College in 1952. She taught  two years at Sterling High School in Sterling, Illinois and thirty two years at West High School in Rockford, Illinois where she was Head of the Men and Women's Physical Education Department.
She was a life member of the Illinois Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, a life member of the National Education Association, a member of the Illinois Education Association, and the American Red Cross. Minnie was president of the Northern District of the Illinois Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.
She retired from teaching in 1986 and returned to her family farm in Benton, Illinois. She enjoyed fishing and spending her summers in Northern Wisconsin.
Minnie is survived by a niece, Peggy (Larsh) Williams and husband Frank of Hertford, North Carolina, and a nephew, Robert Neal Larsh and wife Doris of Edenton, North Carolina, great-nieces and nephews.
Minnie was preceded in death by her parents Harley and Vernie (Buntin) Neal of Benton, Illinois, a sister Ruth Ella (Neal) Larsh and husband Dr. John E. Larsh of Edenton, North Carolina, a brother Harley Buntin Neal of Rockford, Illinois, and a nephew John Charles Larsh of High Point, North Carolina.
Special friends are the Jurs Family-Carol, Bob, Joy and Debbie and many others whom she loved dearly.
Visitation will be held from 4:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. on Saturday, May 13th at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton. Private burial will be at the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton.
