L. Joan Haithcoat passed away February 8, 2025, at Deaconess Hospital, Marion, IL. She was born on September 26, 1933, in Benton, IL.
Joan was the youngest of seven children born to Wm Carroll and Maude (Gipson) Hopkins. She married James W. Haithcoat July 30, 1951 in Corinth, MS. Together they had four children, Cathy (Jerry) Cook, Marilyn (Dow) Smith, Sheryl (Bryan) Draege and Randy (Susan) Haithcoat.
Joan was a homemaker for most of her married life but worked for a few years as a secretary to Dr. Dean C. Gulley, Chiropractor. She loved animals of all kinds; she was a bit of a prankster and loved to make those around her laugh. “Mimi” was loved and adored by all of her grandchildren.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and brothers and sisters, Laymon Hopkins, Howard Hopkins, Dorothy Hill, Ruth Wilson, Wilma Wicker, and Doris Frost.
Surviving are her and James’s, four children, grandchildren; Wesley, Andrew, Anthony, Joshua and Lucas Cook, Michelle Montgomery, Shanna Sanders, Cassie Williams, Jason Draege, Amanda Barbie, Zachary Haithcoat, Jennifer Haithcoat, Melissa Benson, 23 great-grandchildren and several very special nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at a later date. She will be buried at the William A. Swofford Cemetery, Benton, IL.
