Joseph Leonard Bivona

Joseph Leonard Bivona, age 85, a resident of Spaulding, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, April 12, 2020, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield, IL.  

Born February 17, 1935 in Hammond, Louisiana. He was the son of the late Leonardo Bivona and Carmella Skifano. Mr. Bivona was a U.S. Army Veteran stationed in Korea at the tail end of the Korean Conflict.

Joseph is survived by his wife Virgilene of 58 years, son Joseph (Diana) Bivona, Jr. and grandchildren Gianna and Gage Bivona. He is also survived by his sisters Linda (Dale) Lott and Rose Longo and brothers Tony (Donna) Bivona, and Frank (Barb) Bivona. He is preceded in death by his brother Lenny Bivona.

Joe had a zest for life and was always up for trying something new. He loved meeting people and made everyone feel at ease with his quick smile and warm personality. Family, friends and his relationship with God were very important to Joe. He was always there to lend a helping hand to relatives and friends when needed.

Joe loved gardening, traveling, listening to music, and watching sports, especially baseball. His favorite team was the Chicago Cubs.

A private graveside service for Joe will be held on Saturday, April 18 at Franklin Cemetery in Whittington, IL. A memorial service is planned for late summer.
