Johnnie "John" Keith Rone

Johnnie “John” Keith Rone, 62, passed away on Thursday morning, February 4, 2021, at St. Louis University Hospital. John was born in Benton, Illinois, April 11, 1958, the son of William and Mary (Phillips) Rone.  John was a devoted husband, a loving father, an amazing grandfather, and a friend to all.  He was known by others to be genuine, friendly, and hard-working.  John was willing to help anyone in need and was a role model to many.

John was a member of the West Frankfort Mason lodge. He was a retired mine construction worker as well as a Benton Consolidated High School custodian. Most recently he was employed as a security guard at Rend Lake College. John enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and being outdoors, but most of all he loved playing with his grandchildren.

John is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Lynn (Ozbourn) Rone; his daughter, Kristin Ing, and husband, Wesley, of Benton, Illinois; a son, Joseph Rone, of Benton, Illinois; and grandchildren: Westin, Wynnstin, Karaline, Annabelle, Alana, and Thayer.  John was survived by his siblings, Loberta Willhite, Vickie Price, Donna (Gary) Hale, Bill Rone, Phillip (Rhonda) Rone and Tammy (Craig) Doty.  Also surviving are his mother- and father-in-law, Carolyn and Deon Kirk; sister-in-law, Kelly Kirk; brothers-in-law, Marty (Jill) Kirk, Ronnie (Dora) Ozbourn, Tim (Renee) Ozbourn, and Mike Peeler.  He also has many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.  John was preceded in death by parents, William and Mary Rone; his brother, Roy Rone; sister-in-law, Julie Peeler; and a brother-in-law, Dale Willhite.

Memorial contributions may be made to Whittington Church Building Fund.  Services will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Sunday February 7th at Whittington Church in Whittington, Illinois, with Reverend Mark Minor officiating.  Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday at the church.
