Jane Colton Obituary

Jane Elizabeth (Almond) Colton was released from her struggles with Alzheimer's on Friday, October 2, 2020. Jane was a wonderful wife, friend, mother, grandmother, educator, and confidante. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Don Colton; her two daughters, Shannon Colton (Scott Carlson) and Dominique Matthews (Bryan); her four grandchildren, Jacob Carlson, Willow Colton, Colton Matthews and Elin Matthews; her sister-in-law, Jackie Puffer; her nephew Wade Puffer (Jolyn) and great-niece (Jordyn); and her nephew Matt Puffer (Jennifer)and great-nephew (Wyatt Puffer).
Jane and Don lived a rich and full life together, traveling the world and seeking new adventures. Don’s military career provided them opportunities to travel, which became a shared passion. Every time they moved, they explored new places, and offered a unique educational opportunity for Shannon and Dominique. As a teacher, Jane believed in learning everywhere you could. Jane also enjoyed reading and doing cross-stitch, which provided her a chance to unwind at the end of the evening.
While on the shy side, Jane had a warm heart that she shared freely with her friends and family. She was always ready with a huge smile for her students, her friends, and her loved ones. With over 35 years in the classroom, Jane was a wealth of information for early childhood development, offering suggestions and explanations to those who sought her advice.# She cherished her time as an educator, bringing fun and different projects to the classroom to help her students learn. Her passion for doing the right thing, for education, and for supporting friends has touched many people over her 71 years with us.
Her family will miss her wit, her candor, her advice, and her compassion. Jane will be remembered for her bright smile, her welcoming of others, her passion for education, and her love for her family and friends. Given the current health pandemic, the family is celebrating her life in a private ceremony and plans to do a larger celebration in 2021. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you honor Jane's devotion to education by donating supplies, money, or your time to a local school in her memory.
