Haskell Clinton Haithcoat passed away at his home in Benton, IL on July 18, 2023. He was born on November 30, 1941 to James Newman and Zelma Whitlow Haithcoat.
Haskell grew up working on the family's farm and the family-owned meat processing business. He was proud to have served his country in the US Army, spending time in Korea as a surveyor and artillery spotter. After the Army, he worked a couple of years at various jobs in the Chicago area and returned to Southern Illinois to attend John A. Logan College and SIU where he earned his math degree. He went on to work for Givenrod & Lipe where he helped survey the entire shore of Rend Lake. Haskell taught math and surveying at John A. Logan College,worked several years as an ironworker and then returned to the Chicago area to work as as a Building Maintenance Technician at the Altenheim retirement home.
Mr. Haithcoat was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, James W. Haithcoat and sister, Kay F. Bullock. He is survived by sister-in-law-Joan Haithcoat, brother-in-law-John Bullock, several nieces and nephews and Virginia Davis, former spouse, and special friend & his lifelong best friend Leroy Brandhorst.
Per his wishes, he will be cremated and interred with graveside services in the William A. Swofford Family Cemetery at a date later to be determined.
