Elizabeth "Betty" Jane (Tucker) Jones

Elizabeth (Betty) Jane Jones, 90, of Benton, IL passed away on Wednesday morning February 23, 2022, at her son’s home.

Betty was born in Benton, IL on May 26, 1931, the daughter of the late John & Lula May (Harben) Tucker of Benton.

She married Richard L Jones on October 4, 1952, and he preceded her in death on November 12, 2002.

One sister, Virginia Noel of Benton preceded her in death, and she is survived by 2 siblings, Dorothy Kays of Eugene, OR and John Tucker of Saxeville, WI.

Betty was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Benton and served many years on the board of deacons, in the Lucy Helm women’s group, and church secretary.

She had a great love for all things in nature, especially flowers and birds. She loved to keep her mind young by writing short stories, working crossword puzzles, and even took courses at Rend Lake College while in her 70’s and 80’s.

Betty worked for Country Companies Insurance as an agent until her retirement, church secretary, and part-time at the State Bank of Whittington from which she retired at the age of 85.

Betty is survived by her 3 children:

Son: Michael L Jones of Southaven, MS, and his wife Christine

Daughter: Teresa L. Hansen of Spring Valley, IL

Daughter: Cydney Bretsch of Peoria, IL, and her husband Mark

Betty had 8 grandchildren: Shane, Jacy, Jaime, Tyler, Shaina, Nina, Tawney, Gaige

Betty also was blessed with 9 great grandchildren

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, March 5th at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton with Rev. Jim Jenkel officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. on Saturday at the funeral home.
