Jessie Ronald Summers

Jessie Ronald Summers, 84, of Benton, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Mount Vernon Health Care Center. He was born on September 1, 1933 in Thompsonville, IL to Jesse and Sylvia Summers. He married Linda (Knight) Summers on June 6, 1964 and she survives.

Also surviving are his four daughters, Kim Hutchinson of East Peoria, Kristie Rutland of Benton, Heather Summers of Herrin and Rhonda Summers of Peoria; two sons Tim Summers of Peoria and Kevin Summers of Florida; five grandchildren, Andrew Hutchinson, Olivia Rutland, Lucas Hutchinson, Oliver Hutchinson and Sydney Summers; one great-grandson Bentley; one sister June Sanders; one brother Harley Truman Summers and several nephews and nieces.

Jessie's parents, sister Betty and two brothers, Dale and Kirby, preceded him in death.

Jessie was an avid hunter and fisherman as well as a Veteran of both the Army and Navy. A lifelong resident of Illinois, he lived and worked in Peoria for many years and returned to his native Southern Illinois upon retirement.

The visitation will be held at 11:00 AM with funeral services to follow at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, January 23rd at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton. Burial with military rites conducted by the Benton American Legion, VFW Posts and the National Guard Honor Squad will be in the Knob Prairie Cemetery in Akin.
